According to this morning's Danbury News-Times the owner of R Place was shot at the bar early Saturday morning. Two masked gunmen entered the bar shortly after midnight, ordered all patrons and employees to lie on the floor and shot the 69 year old owner 5 times in the chest when he asked what they wanted. He is in critical condition at St. Vincent's Medical Center.

The News-Times is reporting this incident today because the man lives in it's circulation area. Apparently this incident has been hushed up (it happened almost a week ago!). I can only speculate it's at the request of LE.

I reviewed two Bridgeport bars a couple of weeks ago. I implied then and I'd like to state forcefully now that many neighborhoods in Bridgeport are not safe places late at night. If you're going to go to these places go in the late afternnon or early evening.

And if you do find yourself in the middle of an incident do not attempt to be a hero. These animals shot a 69 year old man 5 times just for asking a question. They will certainly use their weapons on anyone who attempts to interfere with a robbery.

do you think it was a robbery or related to a gangland-type thing?
Hope the guys ok, though.

No further info has been forthcoming on this incident so my answer is purely speculation.

I think places like R Place just have to have some kind of underworld connection. Maybe this guy was behind on his protection payments and the mob hired a "collection agency." Or maybe the gunmen were just some crazy crackheads in search of cash.
