what is a sock puppet??Same person using different handles/usernames.

I also was wondering about this on at least one new person to the board. But without further information (and no way to get it, e.g., IP addresses) I didn't think pursuing this matter was of any value.

It is an alter ego for internet message board poster. Most times the sock puppet is created to argue with the main identity. Most of us have done it at some point, not necessarily to argue with ourselves but sometimes we might want to express a view we don't want associated with our normal handle.

Most of the time to make the main identity look like a white knight. Example: I'm trying to gain favor with a sexy massagist with great tits and a cute face. I create LI_Whoremaster to diss her and call her nasty names and fuck with her. Then billyS comes by and fucks with LI Whoremaster. There was a situation like this a while ago involving this poster named Carl aka Dom Deigo. Ah, the old days (sigh).

thanks...the weather ruined my plans for the beach so ive just been being lazy and reading some threads...sounds kind of confusing..i have a hard enough time being "Alyssa" "DesiLove" and just reg me....i guess i understand though atleast what BillyS wrote about why but why would someone want to fight with themselves?

Yeah, me too. Just chillin' at home enjoying the last of my vacation. Its funny, but with how busy I am most days I enjoy days like this occasionally.

I don't think most sock puppets are used to fight with the main identity as much as agree with it, or give the impression of third-party verification of info, etc.

Of course, after reading Billys post above, I can see how that would work too. I guess it just depends on the hidden agenda.

Im kind of enjoying just being home myself..when i woke up and saw the weather i called my hair stylist and twisted her arm and pouted my way to getting her to open the salon for me;) red hair, blonde highlites and no place to go:( this sock puppet sounds like the typ CL reviews...post a review then post a RE that review agreeing ect ect...i mean it is what it is but seems like alot of work and effort....xox

1st of all there is no "official" UG policy on the use of sock puppets, I have a unofficial rule for P&R and yes I have called them out.

In the NY/NJ/CT Spa forum I'll out a sock puppet only if they post in the same thread and try to "put one over" on someone.

I know I've mentioned this before on UG, but......

People are allowed to have multiple handles for "the right reasons" like:

1) They want to post a review of someone/somewhere but don't want it to get associated back to them.
2) They have something important to say, but couldn't say it under their main handle (be careful with this one, because the's athin line between thruthsayer and troll)*.

What multiple handles are absolutely NOT allowed for is for one handle to support the argument of another (or to have a fake fight between the two), or to post something which the other handle has already been warned not to post, or to break a UG rule*. In any of those cases, we will ban ALL of that person's handles.

* Note: sometimes people will use a second handle to post something inflamatory. Users should be careful when doing this, because if it is seen as solely for inflamatory purposes, they may find themeselves in trouble. In addition, anyone doing so had better be prepared to back up any statement with hard facts.

That said, Sockpuppets can still be banned for all the same reasons anyone else can. If someone uses a sockpuppet simply to stir up shit and call people names, they will get bounced as well.

at the beginning, WHITE LIGHTENING made some good ficha posts which were OK until he veered off topic. after that, they quickly headed headed off into vile personal attacks which were obviously all lies.

the same patten seems to have developed with Front Kick Johnny. his initial posts were ok...on topic and relevant points being made. same thing yesterday until he quickly veered off with vile personal attacks and false statements on "GravY", you and masq. Funny thing was, if you dropped out the personal insults, he actually raised some valid points regarding posts made by others in your now famous thread.

Interestingly enough, they all fled like doggs when WL / FKJ showed up.

so the question remains...has WL / AD / FK reappeared as FKJ ??

UG is like the stock market. Some days certain stocks/sectors will be up, other days different ones will be active. You can't sweat it. Its just natural cycles. Besides, usually UG posting is down in the summer, but the last few days have been over-the-top.
