From the article:
"Two weeks ago, the village hired a Garden City law firm -- Berkman, Henoch, Peterson, Peddy -- at a $175 hourly fee to fight the club's lawsuit."
A law firm of four lawyers getting $175 an hour. Now THAT is "sexual activity" - the town is getting fucked!!

This place is listed as Garden City on another website, so I'm guessing the owners put it up on that site. Whats interesting also is that even though there were seven 'comments' none mentioned that the girls weren't topless, as the lawyer for the Club claims. One of the posts on SCL was quoted in Newsday, I don't know where the other comment came from. Also I can't see where the comments "suggested a lot of sexual activity'.

" as he gets his in 20 singles change from the bar.
Also, Newsday reporters have been known to be very creative in printing the "facts" of a story to make it more interesting. I personally witnessed this at an event I was at and then read Newsday's more interesting version the next day.

Actually, Berkman, Henoch, Peterson & Peddy is one of the larger Long Island law firms with probably about 30 to 40 attorneys and $175 hourly rate is a bargain for a firm of that size. Unless an insurance company is picking up the legal tab for the club (which could be the case), $175/hr is dirt cheap for a firm of that size and stature. Billing rates per hour at similar Long Island firms are generally in the $250 to $300 per hour range.

My friend went there and said it was awful. Nickel & Diming everything. He didn't get any extras either. He said the place inside was nice, but it was just a huge cocktease (yes i know all stripclubs are) and just a big waste of time. He also said the girls weren't that great looking either.

a) I thought BHP&P was mostly a Real Estate firm?
b) I think you are right on the money re: insurance. That is a typical number for an insurance co to pay out (I'm invovled in 2 such cases currently; each in which the insurance is paying $175 although the rack rate the firm charges is $450, and the discounted rate for preferred clinets is $300 to $350).
c) I'm not aware of any good lawyers in NY who are only charging $175 an hour for anyone but paralegals. Most good lawyers/firms are $300 to $1000 an hour.
d) the only clients I could think of paying that firm only $175 aside from insurance claims would be banks who are doing mostly forclosure work which is handled mostly be paralegals, and even that assumes a "bulk rate".
