The Lavonia Police Department uncovered a prostitution business Monday afternoon at the Silver Spa on Jones Street, Lavonia Police Chief Randy Shirley said.
Chief Shirley said the department had been investigating complaints of prostitution at the Silver
Spa for a couple months with the help of the Anderson County Sheriff's Department's vice squad.
Officers searched the business at around 3 p.m. Monday and arrested Kynng Young Moon, 49, on charges of prostitution, keeping a house of prostitution and obstruction of justice. Jhngim Kim, 39, was arrested on charges of prostitution and keeping a house of prostitution.
All are misdemeanor charges, Chief Shirley said. The two are being held in jail. He said police are seeking a third woman for prostitution.
Chief Shirley said officers discovered quite a bit of money at the Silver Spa taped under tables and concealed under the floor. Mr. Shirley said he was uncertain how much money because officers had not had time to count it Monday evening.
Employees also had video equipment they used to monitor the outside of the building, Mr. Shirley said. He said police seized that equipment as well as business records and appointment books.
Chief Shirley said the investigation is ongoing and that he expects to question other parties who may be involved today.
