Thoughts on CL as an independent

Hi, I was an independent on CL for a while, as of today I think my IP address has been blocked. I couldn't post anything, not even the personals. I went to a kinko's and it did the same thing. Did anyone else have problem with posting? It keeps sending me back to the verification page w/out any blocked message.
LE has really been crunching down in CL and with the recent merger with Ebay I think some people are really trying to clean it up...if they block multiple postings then the indies can't really survive. It's back to working for pimps and making half while doing all the work.
If CL is gone where would all the indies go to post? Here?
What are ur guys thought on that?

It may be that they blocked your e*mail address. Did you try a second one?

They usually don't block an IP adress unless you do something really bad (not just posting ads).

But I disagree with you: if they block multiple postings, it will benefit independents because the agencies spam a hell of a lot more than an independent would. As a result, there will be a higher independent to agency ad ratio (and your ad won't fall off of the first page in 25 minutes).

OTOH, I agree that when eBay came on board, the handwriting was on the wall and it's just a matter of time.

Lastly, there are a hell of a lot more choices than CL and pimps. (but watch put for all the "Pimp Lites" who hang out on Prostitution Message boards looking to "help" independent escorts; but you probably ran into some of them on CL already).

I had a hard time posting to casual encounters on Tuesday - kept getting a "page cannot be displayed" message when I clicked on the "post" link. Sounds like you are experiencing something different, but it seems like they've been having some problems over there lately, so it may not be you.

Why don't you buy an ad here? Talk to any of the girls who have ads here and you will find that they have loyal followings and good reviews if their service is good. Fuck CL. If you post a lot people think that you are a scamming, spamming post whore. If you don't post enough, you don't get calls. UG is the place to put your ad. Get to know the guys. Have a sense of humor and a positive attitude and you can do really, really well here.

i had a great time with CL *before* the merger with ebay. i especially loved being able to schedule last-minute dates on CL when the mood hit me. but my best experience as a whole was with eros - after i placed an ad there i did not need any other advertising or promotion. when i first placed the ad, i put up a few notices on TER, etc to point gentlemen to my ad (UG did not have the provider ads forum yet) ... and that was all it took.

another big plus (for me) about using eros was that many of my clients were on business trips, visiting from out of town. i don't know what kind of clientele you prefer naomi, but i really liked seeing men who were here on business, lonely in a nice hotel room, and really focused on having a great session.

i've been around UG for about a year, and i like the community for many reasons (entertainment being #1 !) but not necessarily for business. i don't know...i guess i found the tone of most UG discussions to be sort of claustrophobic and unsexy by nature. apparently the guys are more fun in person, right kelly? :-)

obviously you are a staple of UG, and your volumes of contributions are one of the reasons i keep coming back -- plus, anyone who like the carleton arms as much as you do is a boon to society. your posts are often sexy.

when i say "unsexy" i mean that reading some of these threads leaves me with the impression that the pursuit of commercial sex, the experience of commercial sex, and the reportage of commercial sex are dreary stressful tasks that are best avoided. if i didn't have years of exciting and fulfilling experiences to the contrary, i might actually begin to think that commercial sex is no damn good at all.

there's not many ads here, but you'll find that if you do put up an ad, all the lurkers will start crawling out of their hiding places. Only a small minority of UG members actually post, the rest like to sit back and watch. But they'll check out your ads.

There doesn't seem to be any interest in bodywork? Look in the Spa section, and you'll be amazed at how many guys are looking for that.

If you want to just do massages go to school and get a license. Then go to work for a massage therapy place. There's really no way around companies such as the big ones we all know about processing your cc info. I don't have any problem paying for the ads, I just don't want all my personal info out there. I use CL as an alternative and it works very well for me. But then again, I can scan an ***** and it takes me two seconds to know if a gent is legit or not. Because I don't work often, I can pull my ads at any time which I can't do with the bigger companies.

I miss the old days when LE would just come in for a massage and payoff and be on their merry way. But now they have this bs internet task force busting balls left and right. I doubt anyone is targeting you. I have posted on CL and occaisionally have run into the same problem. My posts had nothing to do with being a provider obviously and did not contain phone numbers etc.
I always got CL to accept after modifying the post a little. One time I just added a period to the end and it worked. Switch the wording around in the add and re try. Good luck!

Body work is fine But you need to specifically state it with out indications of more.Charge what you like but as Jed stated you have serious competition.I can go into an AMP get a table shower and massage or suana with release for 60.00 per hour I usually tip 20 to 40 dollars depending on the outcome.They are very pretty women usually and offer a great massage. Charge what you think you must but you know the competition so charge accordingly or provide the extra value, perhaps 1 and a half hours or what ever else you think is equitable. The problem is that because of LE scrutiny many providers and establishments are advertising body rub only (no FS) when in fact they are FS for regular customers. So this blurs the issue and makes it difficult for providers who are, in fact, body rub only. Guys come to expect FS.

Also, I think you can get a distorted understanding of the market rates for sensual bodywork when you see ads asking for $200+ Some of these ads are actually FS providers/establishments for a nominal tip.
