I'm blind

Not only can't I see the "Board Form/rules Changes –all Members Must Read:Advertising , ISO and Etc " or the "WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!" (in all caps), but I can't see the 8 other threads where guys got whacked.

Well I guess I'm blind too...I just tried to use the word "v****ble" in terms of a mathematical equation as posted by another UG member...only to have the word "v****ble" blocked out.

Now don't get me wrong...I really think UG is by and large, a GREAT board, but often it seems to be too restrictive in what we can or cannot say.

I know, it's Slinky's board, and he has the final say in what will be permitted...all in all, he's doing a great job....considering all the problems recently with the WORM virus hitting these boards.

the word itself is NOT banned. If it was, then the entire word would be *'ed out. think about it and look at how the word is spelled.......only 4 letters were *'ed out. put those 4 letters together and you will figure out the word that is banned......

or better yet.....so you don't hurt yourself trying to figure it out...the four letters are

A-R-I-A

now if you write any word, no matter how long the word is, and it has those same 4 letters written in that same sequence, it will be blocked out.......

you keep saying that UG is a great board.....and yet you spend every other post bitching about how it's slinky's board and how restrictive it is.......quit your bitching or leave.

This is certainly NOT a prioroty request....but it would be nice to have.

Some of you more experienced members have an advantage with definitions and terms that many of us know nothing about.

I think that it should be about open communication....I would hope that's why most of are here at UG.

ok, lemme see if I can explain it to you.......

in the past, slinky would ban specific names of working girls/agencies/etc. if they came on here and tried to advertise/shill without paying for an ad.......for example, try the name H-E-I-D-I

So, in this specific case, someone tried shilling for some provider that went by the name A-R-I-A (take the dashes away), so slinky banned the mention of the name. So that means anytime the name, or specifically, the specific sequence of the letters showing in that specific order, is typed in a post, the BB software replaces the letters with asterisks.

So, in YOUR specific case, of using the word V-A-R-I-A-B-L-E, letters 2 through 5 are replaced with asterisks because that sequence of 4 letters was a banned name. Try looking through your Webster's dictionary and type into a post every single word you can find with that same sequence of letters, it will be replaced with asterisks......

Get it now????????

Yes...OK...I get it now.....and THANKYOU for some constructive input on this matter.

Like I said, some of you more experienced members already know what is going on behind the curtains....but for many of us, this not the case..especially with brand new members to UG.

Many of us, including myself are NOT going into NYC for some action...and so we will NOT know what is going down there at any point in time.

I did make some other remarks or suggestions in regard to this matter in other threads.

It's Slinky's board, and I am sure that it is a LOT of work....maybe some software updates or mod's could resolve this problem.
