The weather was nice so I thought I'd head down to the red door and see what's up. I wanted to get there around 7:30 but got a late start. Wound up in the Village around 8:10 and did my customary walk around the block to make sure everything was cool. Glad I did 'cause as I rounded the corner at 8:15 I saw a police cruiser whip around the corner and drive pretty much right up to the red door. Two cops jump out and secure the front door. They are followed by a couple of cruisers and two vans. The place is surrounded and the cops go in. I hang out across the street for a while. Lots of gentlemen loitering and watching with great curiosity from across the street. I could be wrong but it looked to me that one or two people are arrested. I wander by a little later at about 9:30 as the cops lead several ladies out to the side walk and tell them to vamoose. The drag is there seemed to be great variety tonight. Looks like it was going to be a good party. Oh well...

Anyone have the misfortune of being inside when it went down???

I was in the VIP when we were told to get our things together quickly and head downstairs. As I made my way down I noticed the lights were turned up and the music had stopped. There were 4 plain clothes cops with badges around their necks and 3 uniformed NYPD officers. They made the girls go upstairs and told all the guys to get their id's out. One guy refused to cooperate and they made him turn and spread against the wall. Not sure if the cuffed him. In groups of 3 one of the plain clothes cops asked to see our id's. He asked what we were doing there to which I replied "just checking it out" He said.."checking what out" I said " the dancing" He said leave the block and never come back here again. When I got to the street the number of cops was insane. You would expect to see a response like this for a bomb scare or shooting. I'm not sure if this was a planned raid but I did notice that when in The VIP someone leaned against the fire door and it opened widely for a few seconds. It is possible that a patrol car was passing by or that someone got a glimpse and called the police. In either case I think it is safe to say the West side loaction is history.

My guess is that it is part of the clean up of the city prior to the Republican National Convention.

Shutting down one underground club sends a mesage to others that they may be next. They will probably go after more activities such as this that the delegates/visitors may be exposed to or have access to. The city wants to present a clean image during the convention.. There is already an effort to hide the homeless problem.

During the next few weeks, the risk level in Manhattan will be much higher than normal while that in the boros will probably be lower as LE form the boros are tasked to Manhattan to aid in this effort.

being that the nypd have rid the city of ALL terrorists, i guess they have time to now tackel the DANGEROUS people who hang at ******. we should hang all LE and the mayor by their BALLS after the next terror attack.

I saw the plain clothes and I also noticed the cops talking to several neighborhood folks. As I watched the initial assault from across the street my immediate thought was this was a planned raid. From my vantage point it appeared to be well orchestrated . Either some disgruntled type dropped a dime or the neighbors complained. One thing was for sure though: lots of mongers hanging out across the street and I think that's what the cops wanted. They didn't go in at 6pm. They went in at prime time in order for there to be crowd inside and out to discourage the mongers from returning. I agree with beatles6. The red door is toast.

I am SO GLAD I didn't go last night. And I may not be back. Now that the NYPD definitely know about the place, I wouldn't be surprised if they return . ESPECIALLY since the Repub convention is coming next month .

Does anybody recall when the convention came here in '92 ? A whole bunchof places were raided ; I even think the Harmony was visited . One of the best houses , Executive Club , that was around for years , was shut down .
I don't think this will be the end of this

It's funny, because remembering what happened in 1992., I told one of the guys who work at the party that I planned to avoid these type of places this summer until the convention left . Sad to see that I was right ...

No, and fortunatley the financial exchange never took place.

I think that this was inevitable. If you have a place like this with a ton of VIP traffic it is only a matter of time before LE shuts it down.

I am sure the management will have it up and running in another location in the near future.

There is just too much money to be made in these venues to let it die.

I may be a bit paranoid, but I think LE might be checking out these boards as well. So I think we should be careful about what we post here.

When the Convention comes to town, they always try to "clean up" the city. It happened in '92; I seem to remember they even raided the Harmony, back when there wasn't a fight going on to close it down.

When an event like **** happens regularly in the same location, the cops know about it. It's an "if they want you, they can get you" situation.

I'm hoping the event management waits until after the convention leaves town to find a new place.

Noooooooooooooo. I was really liking that place and it took me a while to find this place. I still remember the days of the Savoy's in the BX. Boy do I wish they still had a place like that in the Bx.... Anyway hopefully the party will go on soon enough...

With the convention coming, I am not at all surprised. I would be thrilled if someone would put together an UTR club like this in my native Joisey. The heat should be much lower outside Manhattan this summer.

Hey, here's an idea for the people who organize the underground events. How about providing contact info for some of the dancers who are willing to entertain privately? I don't know how the organizers could benefit financially from this, but I am sure they could figure something out.

Oh well, I will prowl in NJ only until after the convention.

The more I think about this, the less likely it seems that this was done to prepare NYC for the convention. Think about it: If you want to present NYC as Disney would do it, where would you focus your anti-monger efforts? If I was Mayor Mikey, I'd be focusing on VISIBLE smut: streetwalkers, porno theaters, sex shops, etc. Places like the red door are pretty UTR, and unless you are a perv yourself, you might never know what was going on down those stairs. I can just picture some delegate and his wife from Idaho, right off the farm, in really bad plaid suits, watching the pervs and the ladies going through the red door. "Gee, Martha, look at all those purdy ladies goin' in that place, and all those men. Maybe it's some kinda business meetin' and all those ladies are secretaries!" Besides, if Mikey wanted to make a big show of cleaning up Manhattan, where was the big NYPD-coordinated press conference?

Anyway, my best guess now is that is was a competitor or a disgruntled perv. Perhaps a local resident. I remember something similar in Tribecca about 12 or 13 years ago where the local gentrifiers went balistic over an incall place - cheap and great - remember the white picket fence anyone? The pressure was unbearable, so they moved to midtown. Then I lost track of the place, but it was the place where the girls would come up from down south, work a few weeks and then go back. Lots of variet, and very reasonable.

That may be. I have no way of knowing, however, I did read in a couple of posts (can't remember if it was here or yahoe) that uniforms including a lieutenant were hanging out inside and outside the joint a few weeks ago.

That should have been adequate warning.

Regardless of where you might have read it, the above is completely false.

What I DO KNOW is that LE reads these boards just like they read Screw Mag, the Village Voice, Queens Tribune, etc..

What prompts them to act at a given time I DON'T KNOW.

Man that just sucks! I just found the 'red door' a little more than a month ago. The location for me was PERFECT!!!, I was actually planning to go last week but 'fortunately' had to travel to Virginia for work. I was initially pissed being that it put a damper on my plans but man.. Someone was watching over me evidently! As sure as I'm sitting here, I would have been one of those guys in the VIP gittin' some when they kicked the door in!

I'm very sad that it got busted though! Very sad indeed, I thought I'd found a safe refuge that a single guy like myself could frequent. I sure as hell hope this doesnt mean I'll have to get into another hellish relationship with some psycho chick just so I can 'get down' with some measure of frequency!

I just got out of a 5-year relationship that has left me jaded and unwilling to get into another one too soon. Being out of the game for a while and now a little older, it's not so easy anymore to meet new females who are down with a easy going non-pressure open relationship. They all want to settle down and lock you down it seems and thats not what I want right now.
Finding Ass-C was a godsend; I didnt have to go and find a steady who would have inevitably given me shit after a few months (u know what I mean; "this relationship isnt going anywhere!" and I'm thinking "relationship??" I thought we were just fuc**ng, RELATIONSHIP!!!???"). It was two block down from my office.

Strangely enough, I stumbled upon "the 'Y' group" when I ended my relationship 3-months ago or so and was trying to figure out what fun was out there that I have been denied of for the past decade or so because of my life as a regular kinda guy in a relationship. And now I'm single, it's not so easy to know where to go and figure out where u fit in and all when before U were stuck doing 'couples' stuff. Damn, thought I'd found one feather to put in my cap when I found the 'red door' spot! I lament for it's passing! I need a hug..

Now that this is gone and I am still looking for something, I am real frustrated.
Any suggestions...PLEASE!???

OH YEAH>>>

Hey, who exactly are you? I don't know if you really recall my "wannabe DJ" days, or if you just think I'm someone else...

Just a shame that it was busted. I agree with nycstripclubs about LE reading the boards. They must have decided to pick on clubass to make an example. Where the party was happening their is no way someone would have know that this type of club existed. First when the ladies arrive it is in their everyday street clothes not in their exotic outfits. Clubass never let the men come in baggy clothing, sneakers or boots. The red door place was used as a regular bar place during the other days. I would stay away from these clubs until the convention is over.

I always assumed it was a gay club, dungeon or something like that, never saw any women going in or out.

I think the Red Door spot had Transvestite nights on Thursdays. Not sure about other nights.
