Hmm...
I'm confused. Please kind gentlemen - enlighten me. I like to think of myself as a courtesan more than an escort at heart since I am into Tantra and The White Goddess thing. I have always loved sex. I have always loved men + I am always delighted to engage in friendly jest with a willing suitor. It excites me and turns me on.

But frankly, I often appear to be "just an escort." Is there a courtesan school I can attend so that I can really call myself a "courtesan?" If I wanted to become a "real" Courtesan, Dakini or Geisha where can I get my diploma?

Right or wrong, I never cared to much for "titles". I never got bothered by "John" or any other such word. If you want to be called "courtesan" that's fine by me.

For that matter, it's kinda rediculous when lawyers give themselves the title. I think the same sort of feeling is felt by many around here.

But you should call yourself whatever the hell you want.

Willow: After the abuse you have taken on the board, you deserve some kind of real answer. In my opinion, a courtesan goes several steps beyond a provider. Although nomenclature is irrelevant, given the semiotic assessment of language itself, a courtesan seems to practice a more holistic methodology. Accordingly, a provider sees a "client" for an hour (or more), culminating in some type of satisfaction. How she gets to that point is secondary. A courtesan, on the other hand, has a "game plan," which entails a well thought-out strategy, that includes seduction, foreplay, intrigue, deprivation, and, ultimately, fulfillment. The end result is, I suppose, the same. But getting there is vastly different. I prefer the courtesan, but locating that experience is much more difficult. If you are into the latter, let me know :))

it's like 'diva', 'impressario', or 'maestro'. everyone knows they exist, but there's no fixed definition.

as with all the professional callings prior to the late 19th century, there is no formal schooling or curriculum for a courtesan. you learn first by imitating the greats, and then go out on your own.
