Did you ever see the New Yorker Magazine cover with the new yorker's pespective of the world?

PS It was going to be a more geographically correct description, but after re-writing it 5 times because it was too confusing, I gave up and decided to make it SA, rather than "everything in the Western Hemisphere South of the US". Hell, on this board, Mexico is in SA.

Their (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=latin%20america) definition is almost word for word what you typed above.

So are French speaking regions in South America not part of Latin America?

If we are going by the definition of the continents, then what is known as Central America is actually part of North America.

You have no idea how long I've been totally misinformed about what "Latin America" was.

Misinformation about Latin America is pretty common in this country.

Quebec isn't a country, and Canada more culturally British than
French.

Yes, well than I suppose that since most of the people that I talk to off Hilcroft are Muslim that the United States is an Islamic country.

Anyone who doubts the cultural influences on Canada need only to taste their food.

re: the def's JM posted...I saw the 2nd one...(see below)...French is certainly a Romance language so they only got it half right I guess...

This seems like a real strained definition though...I'd go with "countries in the Americas other than Canada and the USA"...

So, what are "The countries of the Western Hemisphere south of the United States" that do NOT "(speak) Spanish, Portuguese, or French"??

from the link....

The countries of the Western Hemisphere south of the United States, especially those speaking Spanish, Portuguese, or French.

n : the parts of North and South America south of the United States where Romance languages (Spanish and Portuguese) are spoken [syn: Latin America]

How about Guyana? a former british colony. the site of the infamous Jonestown colony and the nearly 1000 mass murder/suicide of roughly 20 years ago.
This country has a substantial population of Indian immigrants (as in south asia) or at least decendants of immigrants (it was a british empire thing). Many of the people in this country like to think of their country as being a carribean country. If you go to a carribean event you will usually see Guyana represented.

also, what isthe language spoken in the country which is next to Guyana, Suriname. Suriname is the former Dutch Guiana.

Allen doesn't need to hobby. It's hard enough beating of the Dominicans to have any time left to actually pay for it.

Truly.

I'd retire down there except for that fact that, and we know this because Ari told us so, anyone ex-patriate who moves to D.R. is a pedophile.
